Firmdale Hotels,
the wildly successful London boutique
hotel group (Soho, Haymarket, Covent
Garden, just to name a few) , is
scheduled to open their first New York
hotel this September. The 86-room Crosby
Street Hotel, located in the heart of
Soho, will be a certified GOLD LEED
environmentally responsible hotel, will have
their own bespoke fragrance created by
Miller Harris(the exclusive London
perfumer), have a 100 seat state-of-the-art
screening room and will be beyond stylish
and chic, thanks to Kit Kemp, the
co-owner and Design Director of Crosby
Street Hotel.

INDIGO is
InterContinental Hotel’s new cheap-chic
brand; simple, stylish and affordable. The
120 room INDIGO is opening in
Chelsea this fall with a restaurant, bar
and lounge and fitness center.
Does Times Square need another hotel?
The answer, of course, is there’s never too
many! The InterContinental New York
Times Square used to be a seedy theater,
but that was before Times Square
cleaned up its act. Look for a
34-story tower of dazzle in the summer of
2009! Only the InterContinental
can reinvent themselves!
The old Surrey has been gutted and
after 1 year, the new improved Surrey
has been transformed into a 190 room luxury
hotel with an English inspired rooftop
garden, full service spa and fitness center
with personal trainers and home to Café
Boulud…in fact, Daniel Boulud
will be overseeing all food and beverage
aspects from room service to the bar to high
tea in the rooftop garden!
The Surrey
is scheduled to open on Oct 15.
Just opened, The Mave, located in a
converted, old apartment building , has been
turned into a trendy wannabe luxury
hotel. Located in the Flatiron District,
this 72-room boutique hotel is making a
name for itself with scrumptious Artisanal
breakfasts (handpicked cheeses, freshly
baked breads ) and their restaurant,
Olana, specializing in local,
farm-fresh foods.
Call it a stretch, but The Nomad Hotel
got its name because it is located in the
Madison Square North Historic District!
This 165-room, full service hotel is the
brain child of Jacques Garcia (Spice
Market, Hotel Costes) so it is one of
the most talked about hotels even if it’s
not scheduled to open until late 2009/2011.

Something to look forward to…
Starting August 1, there will be a 0.5%
state tax increase on NY hotels. The State
and City tax will now be 14.75% plus $3.50
per room, per night occupancy tax.
Those value added amenities are looking
good….
